Domain Name Hosting - DNS Services

The Domain Name Server is the core of the Internet which allows the resolution of Internet Names (i.e. www.isp.net.au) to an IP Address (Internet Protocol; i.e. 202.1.116.41). Without this service the Internet would not be as easy to navigate and remember sites.

A Brief Overview of Internet Names:

There are many different types of names available on the Internet and they include: .com , .net , .org , .biz , .id to name a few. These type of name are called gTLD (Generic Top Level Domains). Then comes the CC (Country Code) for Australia our Country Code is au and for New Zealand the Country Code is nz.

The first step to get your Internet Name is to get it registered. For a .com.au you will need an Australian business or Company. For .com you simply need to apply. Should the name be available and you are a sucessful applicant the name will be yours. It is very important to be aware of Trademarks and other rights to names before applying as you may still be a successful applicant does not mean you have the right to use the name.

When you register a domain name with ISP we delegate and include the domain name hosting with our fees. Becareful when trying to find the cheap Internet Name registar as not all providers include delegation and hosting. So while it may seem like you are getting a better deal, it could infact cost you more in the long run.

Delegation is the process of providing DNS details for name queries or moving DNS servers to a new network. Lost name resolution or lost details can occur if done incorrectly. When ISP moves domains it is prudent that no down time occurs. In most cases with enough notice we can move DNS without issues. Includes domain name hosting.

DNS Hosting is the process of providing name resolution. This charge is applicable when registration or delegation is bypassed from ISP.
